PSD book Jacket templates

As I mentioned part of your grade will be placing your jackets int he dimensional photoshop templates I am providing. You should show all 3 covers and at least a few back covers in whatever way you fee looks best.

Process book

Here is a very board idea of what your process book should be for next week.
It should be well designed and using a consistent grid throughout. It should be so good you would feel proud to take and share with a client on an interview. It will be at least 45-65 page pdf sharing all you have done for this project.

First it should due titled:  yourname_process.pdf

It should include:
-Cover page
- Project overview
- Inspiration you pulled (image, type and non-computer)
- Synopsis of your book and original cover
- Research, research, research
- Info about main characters
- Info about place
- Info about objects
- Sketches
- Photos you pulled/Pinterest stuff
- Title page exploration
- Round 01 cover designs
- Round 02 Cover designs
- Various other exploration
- Round 03 Full jackets
- Final jackets (can share flat or in template…template sure looks nice)

Typographic Rules

Andrea posted a lot of type tips, rules, reminders on an older the class blog below. START to learn these rules. Next year you won't be reminded of them and you will look like a HACK :) I kept seeing the same mistakes over and over. I do expect you to read them and correct your work.

Book Jacket assets for class 02/11

FROM YOUR 6: Using what you have done so far – we picked your top 6 directions in class -- translate the covers to be the full bookjackets: front, spine, back (not flaps yet). (*if you are unhappy with any of the 6 covers you can create new ones -- it isn't too late! Please bring in your best work Tuesday!)

SIZE: 6 x 9in, spine .75in, 6 x 9in, flaps 2.75in (final flat size is 18.25 x 9 inches) (Again, you are not designing flaps yet so remember that)

THINK ABOUT How does the experience of picking up the book and turning from front to spine to back help tell the story? How can you make it visually dynamic/ surprise/ unexpected?

! ! THERE ARE ONLY A FEW RULES ! !
all 6 bookjackets have to be different from each other
no repeating the same image on any of the covers
no repeating the same type treatment on ANY of the covers
avoid using the same 1 or 2 fonts over and over
no repeating the same text format for the backs

Out of the 6 bookjackets covers there should be a mix of covers that are image dominate, type dominate or non-computer. I would prefer 2 from each.

You need to have the flowing on the back cover and or eventually on the flaps (any combination of text do not design it the same on every cover... every back and flaps have to be different in your 6 jackets

-- a short description of the book
-- a quote

As I said, the three adobe items can be on back cover and flaps….so keep that in  mind. If it is easier for you to design 1 flap or both that is fine. I am not requiring it just so I can cut down on your work a bit.

Snow Day!

SNOW DAY Y'ALL!

We will meet as planned Thursday the 6th. No excuses for not having 12 fully designed covers and 4 designed title pages. If you do not have these completed dont bother coming to class. You have had more than enough time to complete this.

I would like us to plan on meeting Tuesday the 11th as a large group in 315. More on Thursday.
